Movie Mom Reviews TRAPPED

February 26, 2016 by Cedar Creek

Nell Minow

TRAP stands for Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers. “Trapped” is a powerful new documentary that focuses on efforts to cut off women’s access to abortion by imposing requirements and restrictions on clinics that have no relationship to health or safety.

It could not be more timely, released the same week that the most significant challenge to Roe v. Wade was argued in the Supreme Court, just after the death of Justice Scalia makes a 4-4 split decision a possibility

John Oliver Makes an Excellent Case for Reproductive Freedom

February 23, 2016 by Cedar Creek

Above the Law
by Katherine N. Rubino

If you’ve been paying attention, you are aware of the erosion of reproductive freedoms in this country. Usually draped in a veil of concern over women’s health, state-level restrictions on abortion providers have, directly or indirectly, drastically reduced the options for women. The gap between the theoretical right to abortion and the practical ability to exercise that right has become a chasm.  Read complete story >

TRAPPED at Sundance 2016

December 30, 2015 by Cedar Creek

TRAPPED documentaryCedar Creek Productions latest project, TRAPPED, is in the U.S. Documentary Competition at Sundance Film Festival 2016, January 21-31, 2016 in Park City, Utah.

Across America, but particularly in the South, abortion clinics are in a fight for their existence. Since 2010, legislators across America vowing to make their states “abortion free” have introduced hundreds of anti-choice bills. Caught in the political quagmire are millions of women of reproductive age, many of them poor and uninsured. Their only hope? The men and women of TRAPPED, who are fighting to turn the tide and fulfill the protections guaranteed by Roe v. Wade.

As the legal and political fight escalates, what remains of an American woman’s right to choose?

EQUUS The Horse Owner’s Resource
Fran Jurga, March 16, 2015

Every generation of Americans has a signature road trip movie or book. Whether it’s Jack Kerouac’s book On the Road defining the beat culture of the 50’s or the 1990s film Thelma and Louise giving the road trip a feminist slant or the pathos of 1930s Depression survivors driving to the promising land of California in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath, Americans identify with hitting the road. For better or worse, the highway will sort things out and–as someone once said–we will always be closer if we don’t stand still.

Dogs on the Inside, Uniting dogs and inmates to work towards a second chance

Brian Reynolds 3/20/15

They’re sending dogs to jail in Massachusetts. The dogs aren’t serving time for digging up their neighbor’s lawn or tormenting the cat down the street. It’s actually an incredible program called “Don’t Throw Us Away” that is turning prisons into foster homes for dogs. Dogs On The Inside is a beautiful documentary that tracks the relationship between prison inmates and abused stray dogs. Both the inmates and the dogs are given the opportunity to work towards a better life on the outside. It’s the second chance of a lifetime.
