Review: ‘Trapped,’ a Documentary, Looks at Abortion Clinics in the South
With the Supreme Court’s hearing of a challenge to a 2013 Texas law imposing stringent requirements on abortion providers comes Dawn Porter’s “Trapped,” the winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Social Impact Filmmaking and an urgent, vital examination of Southern abortion clinics. The film’s subjects face so-called TRAP laws (the letters stand for targeted regulation of abortion providers), whose critics say aim to close clinics or reduce their number by placing unaffordable or unfeasible demands on them.
